Magento 2.2.2 Update: One-Click Checkout offers ‘Amazon-like’ Experiences

The release of Magento 2.2.2 includes a host of new tools, numerous functional fixes and enhancements, plus a substantial number of contributions from the wider Magento community.

With the addition of significant new features that streamline the customer experience and provide merchants with greater insight into their online business, Magento 2.2.2 is a big step forward for the platform. Here’s the highlights.

One-Click Checkout

With the recent expiration of Amazon’s one-click checkout patent, retailers are now free to offer their customers a faster, more streamlined purchase process. The 2.2.2 update sees Magento become the first commerce platform to offer an ‘Amazon-like’ experience as an out-of-the-box feature.

When a returning customer selects the “Instant Purchase” button on a product detail page, they are immediately taken to a confirmation page where they can place the order. Magento automatically pulls in their stored payment and shipping informations, skipping conversion-killing steps and dramatically reducing checkout times. Infact, retailers who have tested this feature have found that it can shorten the amount of time it takes to place an order by upwards of 90%.

Instant Purchase is particularly well-suited for mobile commerce and replenishment purchases, due to the reduction in checkout friction. Other merchants have found that it helps to drive impulse sales. Now, shoppers can click and buy as they go through a site without the shock of seeing the combined cost of the total items in their cart.

Advanced Reporting

Magento 2.2.2 also helps merchants develop a greater picture of their business, and base strategic decisions on visually-compelling reports and insights. The new Advanced Reporting provides 20 reports in a user-friendly web interface available from the Magento Admin.

These reports offer business-specific metrics and insights through three pre-configured dashboards – orders, customers and products. Data is updated daily and reports can be configured to show different date ranges – from a single day to 2 years. Merchants can also filter reports by store view.

Magento Shipping

The update also boosts efficiency by integrating with Magento Shipping’s multi-carrier fulfillment capabilities. Rather than having to use multiple extensions, merchants can now fully manage all shipping tasks from the central hub of the Magento Admin, from configuring shipping options and fulfillment rules to comparing shipping prices across carriers. Retailers will also gain faster access to carriers for improved operations and customer experiences that deliver profitable growth.
